Lots of Things to do Today
I'm not going to be subtle about it, I'm voting for Emily Bergin.
So the voting sesh is taking place as... surprise, surprise, a student friendly bar the public know as 'The Glass House', and us students know as 'The Office'.
Quite look forward to a session of letting my hair down tonight by a drinking session at 'The Cell' tonight too. Ok, it's actually called 'Scy' now, but I refuse to acknowledge this change!
Right, must go and make myself look pretty. Bye.
Uni Work – same old, same old

Today a vital book for my dissertation arrived. It was recommended by a friend who is doing a similar study to me relating to fan culture. "Fan Cultures" by Matt Hills. I'm breaking into it now as at the moment for my dissertation I am researching fandom and fan culture side of my dissertation. I've already submitted questionnaires to do with audience research and 'LOST' fandom on several 'LOST' fan forums and on my other blog fal108-themediastudent.blogspot.com where followers or viewers e-mail me via my dissertation e-mail thelostdissertation@hotmail.co.uk. So far, the dissertation of writing it into words, is going slow, so I am praying that the more research stuff I do, the more books, articles, journals and online stuff I read, then I might get a light bulb that might charge the super speed writer in me that I am used too.
So, on top of my 10,000 word dissertation to write, I also have to take part in the production of a 20 minute film, a research and development project where I have to research a company, get an interview and aim to get either an internship there or a job for after graduation. On top of all that, I also have to write an essay on contemporary media. All by May 7th, however, dissertation, which is the bigger of both projects at the moment, has to be in for first week in April. Is that doable? Well, I guess I am about to find out. I really don't have any choice in the matter. Oh, and I also forgot to mention an in-course retrieval to do. Basically, that means re-sitting an assignment that I failed last semester – "Horror and Fantasy" – which I failed as it had to be sacrificed to ensure group work was completed for another project at the same time.
Ok, so my readers' maybe thinking that "why are you wasting your time writing a blog on here, rather then getting down with your studies?" – simple answer, it's what I do when I run into a writer's block, or I need a break, or as a warm up.
So... apart from uni work, what's new with me? Well, nothing much really. Just been doing my usual hours at work (the odeon), which does me just fine. I enjoy it, which helps. Also means I've already seen the new Alice in Wonderland film, which I think was really good. Not what I expect, but very enjoyable, and to the standards I expect from Tim Burton. I was also quite shocked to how short the film was then I would expect. Went in for the film at eight o'clock and was out by just after 10pm. When you include adverts and trailers which are normally twenty to half an hour long, that pretty much adds up to the film being just over an hour and a half long. Maybe I'm just used to films these days being at least two hours long.
Other films I've seen recently have been 'Leap Year' and 'The Lovely Bones'. 'Leap Year' was surprisingly funny. I thought it was going to be a typical, really corny, really cheesy, shitty film, but I actually found it really entertaining, and was laughing a lot of the way through. My friend told me she thought that Matthew Goode could not do an Irish accent, but it was good enough for me. The ending was predictably cheesy, and in that way, a bit disappointing, however, the rest of it was worth a giggle. What is it about the Irish that makes them so damn attractive?
I found 'The Lovely Bones' one of the most emotional films I've ever watched. I've not read the book yet, so I am unable to compare the two. I always do this if I know a film is coming out based on a book. I've learnt my lesson on this. As a general rule, I always find that the films are never better then the book they are based on, so since I learnt this, I have been watching the film before I read the book, then I usually find I enjoy the book even more. Ok, I've kinda cheated with reading all the 'Twilight' books before each film has come out separately, but I figured that I would run into too many spoilers in-between the making of each of the other films. Anyway, back to 'The Lovely Bones'. There were so many moments in the film that either made me cry, or made me want to cry. It made me think so much of myself and my relationship with my dad, and placing myself and my dad in the shoes of Suzie and her father, Jack. It made me think of how destroyed my dad would be if what happened to Suzie had happened to me when I was fourteen. Then it made me think how I'd feel if I had lost my own child in such away.
Basically, Peter Jackson did a superb job with the film, and I would definitely watch it again. It was so beautiful. Although never with my dad. That would be horrible.
Anyway, it's late. I better get in some more reading and note taking for a little while and then some good earned rest. Busy, busy, busy day tomorrow. Much needed trip to the gym, taking back a dress to the shops due to it being a bad quality that it broke on my first night of wearing it. A seam came undone and the zip broke. NOT impressed. So that, and uni work, and then important law society events in the evening.
So I am going to say ciao for now, and hopefully, I'll write again soon!
Zoe.

DISSERTATION AUDIENCE INTERACTION QUESTIONNAIRE!
For those that do not know me, my name is Zoe, a third year media student at the University of Lincoln, and for my Dissertation, I am studying ‘LOST’ and its fan culture. I need your help! If as many of you could please take a few moments of any free time to spare answering my questions, that would be fantastic! There are fifteen questions in total.
First set of questions is to do with the type of audience ‘LOST’ attracts for my audience research:
1. How old are you?
2. Are you male or female?
3. What do you do for a living? Are you employed, unemployed, student, retired etc?
4. Are you an aspirer or a homemaker?
5. Do you think ‘LOST’ is for a narrow audience or broad audience?
And now for the questions on ‘LOST’
1. What is the appeal of lost to you?
2. How many ‘LOST’ forums are you a member of?
3. Do you part take in any fan culture activities? Such as fan fiction, fan videos, fan art, etc?
4. What would you consider as fan activity apart from the aspects I mentioned?
5. Do you look for spoilers, or avoid them?
6. Is six seasons enough, or would you rather there be more episodes to come?
7. To what extend does your fandom go?
8. Have you ever attended a ‘LOST’ convention, and if so, how were they conducted, and what did you do at them?
9. Would you go to Hawaii to go on the tour of the ‘LOST’ set, and if so, what would you get most excited about seeing?
10. Do your friends ever get tired of your expressed fandom of ‘LOST’, and would you consider yourself as an ‘Annoying Lost Fan’?
Thank you very much for your help, you can keep up-to-date with the progress of this dissertation if you follow my other blog: fal108-themediastudent.blogspot.com

The Three J's and What to do when your Friends Break Up.
Myy blog posting time might beg to differ at the time that I am writing/posting this blog, as I live in England, and blogspot tend to run on American time, which, to be honest, I might as well be American with how my biological clock works. It is 02:25am as I am writing this, and I am due to be up at 04:30/05:00am as I have a fully planned weekend ahead of work experience, the only problem is that despite being very aware of the time, I can't seem to be able to sleep. This makes me sad, because I know how busy I will be tomorrow, and I will be exhausted, as well as knowing I have two other early morning starts to look forward too! I am hoping by writing this blog that I will get tired enough to fall asleep.
Anyway, a little update of something that happened a few weekends ago. Which, conviently, I was away from Lincoln on a similar work experience placement. During which, the drama was mad back at home. My housemates, whom for discretion, I shall call them Joe, Jan and Jack.
Anyway, it all started when Jack wrote a status that was aimed at Joe and Jan, whom are in a committed relationship. The status was about how Jack was upset/angry and felt that Joe and Jan had lied to Jack, namecalling them and accusing them of being 'lying snakes'. After learning what stemed the dispute, it was all to do with invites. Jack was angry/upset because Joe and Jan hadn't invited Jack to a day out at the park when it was really sunny, and the BBQ that had been arranged to have at the house in which we all live in. Me (Fal), Joe, Jan and Jack. Invited to the Park and BBQ, which I may point out were seperate events, were old flatmates from the previous year Sarah and Adrian I shall call them. Well, myself, Joe, Jan and Jack lived with Sarah the previous year in off campus halls of our university, and Adrian lived in the flat above ours.
So yes, back on topic. Myself, Joe, Jan, Sarah and Adrian all decided spur of the moment - a spontaneous thought, to go to the park on one occasion, on the day of said event because it was hot and sunny, and as we were all free for that day, it would be nice to do something to enjoy the sun. So we arranged to go to the park! Something that unfortunately Jack wasn't around at the time to invite. I had already noted he had left the house early that day, so assumed he was either at uni all day, or had plans. Ok, in his defence, we could have given him a text I suppose, but none of us expected him to get upset about it, afterall, it wasn't an invitation event. There were no facebook event set up with a guest list, nor did we send out handwritten invitation with strick instant RSPV response cards. It was just a whoever was around, lets go to the park! Type of thing. Anyway, it was a good day out for all whom went.
The next event was a BBQ at my house. I knew nothing about the BBQ until I noticed nibbles being layed out on the table, I asked Joe and Jan what they were upto, if they had people coming over, and they said yeah, Sarah and Adrian were coming over for a mini BBQ, and asked if I cared to join? I accepted. Jack was in his room, and his girlfriend arrived, and they both went up to their rooms for a while. Shortly after, Sarah and Adrian arrived and we all settled in the living room, and got the BBQ outside working. Moments later, we heard a very loud and disturbing slam of the front door go as Jack and his girlfriend vacated the house, making the whole house shake. This is normally a trait of mine that I do when I am quite pissed off about something, so I immediately knew something had pissed Jack off, everyone else, however, wavered their hands, and insisted it must be the wind, as it was particuarly windy that day.
If I had known any hint of what Jack was mad about, I would have gone after him, and demanded to know what his behaviour was about, but I shrugged the thought off and carried on with the BBQ. I wanted to do something fun before going off for my photography work experience the next day.
So yes, these were the events that Jack got upset about. No invitation. Which, is quite silly in heinsight, as for one, he isn't that keen on Joe and Jan in the first place, so I don't see what all the fuss is about, he avoids them whenever possible. I dunno, maybe he just wanted to make a fuss because he could. Maybe he was feeling too sensitive at the time, as I know he can be at times. I know he has exams to be stressed about too, which was why he wasn't invited to the BBQ, because it was on a Friday, and I knew he had an exam on the Monday, so I presumed he would want to use the time to revise. Reason for this was that last year he was willing to sacrifice missing my Birthday for two days of revision before his exam which was two days after my brithday, so therefore, you would assume he would be doing the same for a BBQ, which on a scale of significance, is no-where near the same importance of attending a friends birthday. Of course, after much nagging, I did get him to come to my birthday last year, but thats not the point, hehe.
Anyway, so the next day, the Saturday, the day I left for Yorkshire for my work experience, the facebook status transpired, and all hell broke loose, leading to big house divide up. Joe and Jan now not speaking or even achknowledging Jack's existance, and vice versa. I only found out about the whole drama when I got back that Sunday, and after carefully listening to both sides, I tried my best not to be more biased to one side more then the other, although I do have stronger sideing oppinions towards one side then the other, I could never admit to either party, as it would be unfair as they are all my friends. I do feel partly at fault somehow, and tried to give both parties reasonable oppinions, but one is more stubborn then the other, and just admits to little fault.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone who might by chance read this post comment back, tell me what you think, and if you have been in similar situations, or felt caught in the middle of your friends disputes??

Almost Third Year Student!!
I am going back to my hometown at the weekend - where I will be out of internet! Argh! So don't know how I am going to cope with that! I am going to have to beg my mum to get internet! At the moment though, I seem to be doing my best to avoid packing my room, ready to be picked up at the weekend. My room is a tip and I need a big sort out in crap I don't need! I have to decide what stuff to keep in Lincoln and what stuff to take back home, just too much to do in the space of a few days!
This weekend just gone, I was in Yorkshire on a photography work experience, taking photos of Landrovers who were on a off-road experience, and I would take photos of them splashing into mud, it was great fun, I had some photos on my digital camera which I was going to put up on here, but unfortunately on a birthday night out with one of my best friends, I re-formatted my camera, not realising that it deletes my photos in the process! Which is really frustrating as I had some nice photos with my dad on a day out in Skegness too! Never mind....I'll get hold of copies of my work somehow.
Then there is my youtube work - I am so behind, and I know there is no-way I am going to get majority of what I want done, done by the time I have no access to internet. The second part of my 'Deception' video, completing my John Locke 'omg I can't believe it' as well as other projects I've yet to start.
I don't start third year to the end of September, so I have a long summer ahead, and a couple of things in this summer to look forward to. Midnight walk in June, LOST convention in August and a holiday in the Lake District early September. In between all these events I need to find paid work and plenty of work experience to contribute to my experienced in the media as well as looking flashy on my CV.
Next year at university I am studying single camera, so hopefully this means I can display more regular work I do at uni online on youtube. If my vids are good enough! Hehe.
Fal out xx
